Models to enable precision oncology

Engaging with industry and promoting academic-industry dialogue and collaboration remains an important aspect of POI's strategy. We recently held an industry-focused webinar event, featuring two invited speakers to discuss different avenues by which industry can work with researchers to advance precision oncology.

Dr. Michael Wick (CSO, START Research) first detailed the extensive work done by his company to develop models of  many different forms of cancer.

This was followed by Dr. Irina Babina (CEO, Concr) who showed how Concr can take algorithms originally developed to detect the presence of "dark matter" in radio-telescope images of far away galaxies and repurpose them to develop a digital model of cancer patients.

To further the goal of developing industry-academic collaborations, Dr. Wick gave his presentation live from SBI, where he was also available to meet with researchers and discuss collaborative opportunities.

This was a fascinating look at two different but highly-complementary approaches to industry-led research. We'd like to again thank both speakers as well as Dr. Stephen Thorpe (UCD) for assisting with chairing the event.
