Public Engagement

We at POI are passionate about our research and the potential that it has to positively impact wider society. We have embedded public engagement within the POI programme, and hope to develop lasting relationships with community groups towards the goal of informing and engaging the public, and inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in science and cancer research.

Below, you can read some selected highlights from our programme of public engagement events, including our work with the Bangladeshi community in Ireland, Choirs for Cancer and some of our public research webinars.

As part of the Systems Biology Ireland team, we hosted an open-day style public event alongside POI charity partners Breakthrough Cancer Research.

A free public research showcase on 22 September 2022 featuring laboratory tours, a POI research expo and interactive sessions. Events in Dublin, Cork, Galway & Online.

Invisible Spectrum 2

Building on the 2020 event of the same name, POI continued its engagements with minority communities of Ireland in cancer research through 'Invisible Spectrum 2.0'.

Choirs for Cancer

Choirs for Cancer brought together 10 choirs and more than 300 singers in a moving community tribute to those whose lives have been touched by cancer.
